As the self assessment deadline falls on a Sat this year, please note the HMRC helpline will be closing early at 4pm. HMRC's twitter feed is saying that over 100,000 people have filed their tax return since midnight last night, an average of 500 a minute.

HMRC's twitter feed is saying that  over 100,000 people have filed their tax return since midnight last night, an average of 500 a minute. 

Those looking to get through to the HMRC's helplines should expect a bit of a wait today as approximately half a million people leave it until the last day to complete their returns. 

The Self Assessment Helpline is 0300 2003310. Have your Unique Taxpayer Reference number to hand, and expect to wait! As the deadline falls on a Saturday this year the helpline will be closing at 4pm.

It is free to make your Self Assessment return. Yet every year many people get scammed by going through a website which charges to basically forward your return on to HMRC.
