Increase in Minimum Wage to £8.72

The Minimum wage rate increases each April. What you are entitled to depends on your age and if you are an apprentice.

You must also be of school leaving age to receive the minimum wage rate.

Apprentices are entitled to the apprentice rate if they are either:

  • aged under 19
  • aged 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship

The new rate comes into effect from the first full pay period beginning on or after 1 April 2020. If you are paid weekly, from Mon to Sun, then your hourly rate will increase from next Mon. For this week you will remain on the old rate .
